Nakshatra Calculator — Find Your Birth Star

Learn how your birth Nakshatra is derived from date, time and place of birth. Build your Kundli to see Moon Nakshatra, Pada, and Dasha starting planet in your dashboard — sidereal ephemeris precision.

How results work: This page explains the concept. Your personal Dasha, Nakshatra, Ashtakavarga, Lagna, and other chart data are computed by our ephemeris engine only after you enter your full birth details (date, time, and place). Results appear in your dashboard — not on this page.

What is a Nakshatra (birth star)?

In Vedic astrology, the zodiac is divided into 27 Nakshatras — lunar mansions that the Moon traverses over roughly 27 days. Your birth Nakshatra is determined by the Moon's sidereal position at the moment you were born. It reveals your emotional nature, instincts, and the starting point of your Vimshottari Dasha timeline.

Why your Nakshatra matters

Your Nakshatra is one of the most important factors in Jyotish. It determines your Dasha starting lord, influences marriage compatibility (Nadi, Gana matching), and shapes personality traits associated with your birth star's ruling deity. Each Nakshatra is further divided into four Padas (quarters), adding finer detail to your chart.

How we calculate your birth star

My Horoscope computes your Moon's exact sidereal longitude using Swiss Ephemeris data, then maps it to the correct Nakshatra and Pada. The result is included in your full Kundli along with the ruling planet, deity, and Dasha sequence that begins from your birth star.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my Nakshatra?

After onboarding with your date of birth, time, and place, My Horoscope computes your Nakshatra from the Moon's sidereal position at birth. The result appears in your dashboard. Birth time improves accuracy, especially near Nakshatra boundaries.

What are the 27 Nakshatras?

The 27 Nakshatras include Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika, Rohini, Mrigashira, Ardra, Punarvasu, Pushya, Ashlesha, Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Vishakha, Anuradha, Jyeshtha, Mula, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revati.

What is Nakshatra Pada?

Each Nakshatra spans 13°20' and is divided into four Padas of 3°20' each. Your Pada refines personality traits and is used in advanced compatibility matching. It is calculated from the exact degree of the Moon at birth.

How does Nakshatra affect Dasha?

Your birth Nakshatra determines which planet rules your first Mahadasha in the Vimshottari Dasha system. For example, if you are born in Rohini Nakshatra, your life timeline begins under the Moon Mahadasha.

Is Nakshatra the same as Moon sign (Rashi)?

No. Your Moon sign (Rashi) is the zodiac sign the Moon occupies — one of 12 signs. Your Nakshatra is a finer 27-fold division within those signs. Two people with the same Moon sign can have different Nakshatras.
