How do I calculate my Vimshottari Dasha?
After you complete onboarding with date, time, and place of birth, My Horoscope computes your Dasha sequence from your Moon's Nakshatra. Mahadasha, Antardasha, and Pratyantardasha with dates appear in your dashboard — not on this landing page.
What is Mahadasha?
Mahadasha is the major planetary period in Vimshottari Dasha. Each of the nine planets rules for a fixed duration — for example, Saturn Mahadasha lasts 19 years, Venus 20 years, and Ketu 7 years. The planet ruling your current Mahadasha strongly influences your life themes during that period.
How long is each Dasha period?
The nine Mahadasha periods total 120 years: Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, and Mercury 17 years. Sub-periods (Antardasha) are proportional fractions of the major period.
Which Dasha am I running now?
Your current Dasha depends on your birth Nakshatra and how much time had elapsed in your starting Mahadasha at birth. Enter your birth details and My Horoscope will show your active Mahadasha, Antardasha, and upcoming transitions.
Why is Dasha important in Vedic astrology?
Dasha periods activate different planets in your chart, triggering events related to that planet's house placements and significations. Timing predictions in Jyotish rely heavily on Dasha analysis — it tells you not just what will happen, but when.
